NZ tourism agency apologizes to Anna Faris |
New Zealand's state tourism agency apologized to American actress Anna Faris on Tuesday for attacking her credibility after she described New Zealand men as vulgar.
Faris recently told U.S. talk show host George Lopez that New Zealand men had yelled obscenities at her while she was in the country filming the movie "Yogi Bear." She said she was walking home from the movie set when separate carloads of men shouted profanities at her.
Tourism New Zealand spokesman Ian Long was quoted by the New Zealand Herald on Sunday as saying: "In the same segment, she accepts an award for being a pothead stoner of the year ... I don't think she has any credibility."
The "Scary Movie" star was appearing on the chat show Lopez Tonight to promote "Yogi Bear" when she revealed she had recently won a "Stony," a jocular award sponsored by High Times magazine, for her portrayal of a pot user.
In a statement on Tuesday, the tourism agency apologized for any offense its remarks had caused.
"The inference that Tourism NZ did not take Ms. Faris' comments seriously is very much regretted and was certainly not intended," Tourism New Zealand said.
"On a U.S. talk show Ms. Faris spoke about disrespectful behavior she experienced during her stay in New Zealand and as a consequence her impression of New Zealand men is, to say the least, poor."
The agency said it would offer Faris some "great Kiwi hospitality" to make up for its comments and the vulgar behavior she experienced.

Anna Faris Hits the 'Green Hornet' Afterparty in Hollywood |
Adorable comedienne Anna Faris skipped out on the premiere of buddy Seth Rogen's new film The Green Hornet, but she did slip into a pair of ripped jeans for the Hollywood afterparty.
Faris was outfitted in a simple black jacket and brown flat boots, carrying what appears to be a patent leather studded Alexander Wang bag. The hilarious actress has been sporting blunt bangs of late—and they're still looking good.
Faris is rumored to have a role in the much-anticipated Ghostbusters III—if it ever happens, of course.

Anna Faris' claim Kiwi men are vulgar is rubbish: Locals |
A Hollywood star has complained that Kiwi men are too vulgar but Rotorua people say that's rubbish.
Actress Anna Faris, who has starred in the Scary Movie series, Lost in Translation and television's Entourage, appeared on American television host George Lopez's talkshow and claimed Kiwi men had shouted obscenities and rude comments at her and demanded she show them her breasts.
It happened during filming of her latest movie Yogi Bear, which was partly filmed near Rotorua and Taupo, as she was walking in downtown Auckland. The actress claimed she was yelled at by blokes in two different cars. Destination Rotorua Tourism Marketing general manager Don Gunn had not heard about it but reckoned he could see how Miss Faris might have been "typecast" due to the types of roles she played.
However, he admitted it might not be a good look for Kiwis "if it's true".
A question about the incident put to readers on The Daily Post Facebook page brought mixed reactions.
"I'd agree with that, I have had a lot of foreign friends comment on the 'potty mouth' Kiwis, but it hasn't been described with the word 'vulgar' before. They actually think it's hardcase," one person said.
Another commented: "I'm no judge but at least our men still hold some form of "macho-ness".
I'd rather look and sound like a man than be a man looking like a woman and sounding like one".
Tourism NZ spokesman Ian Long said no one would take Miss Faris seriously.
"In the same segment, she accepts an award for being a pothead stoner of the year and she's quite clearly had a few. I don't think she has any credibility," he said.
Mr Long said he was not worried that Miss Faris' comments might deter tourists from visiting New Zealand.
"New Zealand is recognised around the world as a friendly and inviting destination for tourists," he said.

Anna Faris Accidentally Sent a 'Sexy Text' to Her Dad! |
On next Tuesday's "Ellen DeGeneres Show," 'The House Bunny' actress Anna Faris shares a funny yet cringe-worthy tale.
Anna dishes that she and her husband used to "sexy text" each other on Wednesdays. But one time, she mistakenly sent one of the messages to her father!
"I wrote, 'I can't wait to see you in bed tonight,'" Anna recalls.
When she adds that she hopes her father knew it was a mistake, a shocked Ellen replies: "What do you mean, you hope so? You're just clearing this up now?... When did this happen?"
"I guess about a year ago. I'm sorry, Dad," Anna says.
The actress, whose movie 'Yogi Bear' hits theaters Dec. 17, reveals that she put a stop to the sexy texts after a similar "close call" involving her husband's nephew, "who's like nine years old."
"Now this is really going to embarrass my mom that I told you that story," Anna tells Ellen.
